Another year of apple picking in the books! This year, our schedule didn't allow us to get up to Carter Mountain until middle of November. I started checking the weather a week out and started wondering what I had gotten us into - the forecast called for a temperature in the high of 45 - but I was determined to get that mountain air into my lungs and apples into my belly, so we pressed on. Our friends came up to Richmond that morning, and I bundled ourselves up to the max (I wore ski pants!) and we drove up to what turned out to be a really clear but very windy day.
It was REALLY cold. We regretted it almost immediately, but then we ate some hot apple cider donuts and that fortified us.
This is Logan regretting refusing the extra pair of pants I tried to put on her that morning.
Haha - the best group picture of the kids from that day.
Sloane was totally undeterred from said wind and immediately started running around and having a grand time - which I think helped keep her warm and happy.
As we hiked down to the fuji apples, the walk warmed us up and the wind abated in the lower parts of the mountain.

Rewarded with apples - always worth it!

My little pro!
Lesson learned to refrain from apple picking in the mountains when it's this windy, but I don't regret this trip one bit! It was invigorating and we came home with a giant bag of apples, which we devoured.
