PAGE CXVI

last tuesday, our church got the band, page cxvi, to share a concert at The 400 building and it was wonderful. they are a band/project/trio whose goal it is to revive some of the lyrics of hymns, making it more accessible to the modern ear, and sing and play the heck out of them. it was rest for my soul. you can check them out here.  they have some youtube videos on their site, but also make sure to check out their new 'lullabies' album...

you know what else i love? c.s. lewis' chronicles of narnia. 

it relates because the name, page cxvi, comes from a reference to page 116 of their copy of 'the magician's nephew'. it is the passage that describes aslan singing narnia into existence: 

“In the darkness something was happening at last. A voice had begun to sing. It was very far away and Digory found it hard to decide from what direction it was coming. Sometimes it seemed to come from all directions at once. Sometimes he almost thought it was coming out of the earth beneath them. Its lower notes were deep enough to be the voice of the earth herself. There were no words. There was hardly even a tune. But it was, beyond comparison, the most beautiful noise he had ever heard. It was so beautiful he could hardly bear it.”
